It
was the recognition that this was an impossible ideal in a great
number of families that led to the formation of Oasis in 1996 to work
throughout the Borough of Elmbridge.
The stress and pressures of modern society always affect those least able to cope, those in critically dysfunctional family situations, some single parents, those with alcoholic and/or drug dependencies and those in severe financial hardship.
The helpless victims of all this pressure have always been children, the people with the least resistance to emotional confusion, stress and pain.
Caroline Edwards and her team of experienced and highly qualified professionals and carers had been working with those in need for some time when, in the spring of 1996, she founded Oasis.
It's initial objectives are still as vital and valid as ever:
To improve the child's overall development.
To recognise the child's emotional, physical and mental needs.
For parents and carers to feel
supported and confident in their parenting/caring role.
To provide
recognition and support for individual parents and carers.
To support Social Services in the undertaking of their duties, responsibilities and obligations to the children and families as identified by them as being in need.
To provide a
service upon specific request from individuals or Social Services.
